Is fear holding you back from working towards your ideals? For many of us, fear is a major contributor to lack of follow through to reach our goals. The reality is before we even get to feel fear we need to admit to ourselves that there is in fact a need or a want for change.
In order to stay safe and fly under the radar, many of us use another four letter F-word to justify and mask the need for any change… FINE.
Common questions for the default response include:
How are you? Fine
How’s your health? Fine
How’s work? Fine
How’s your relationship? Fine
Starting to sound familiar?
It is often easier to sit in the comfortable “fine” illusion rather than consciously realising that things are in fact not fine, it’s just easier to say they are.
Once you admit to yourself the need for change it’s then up to you to let go of fine and shift from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.
A growth mindset will help move you in the direction you want to be going by realising that you have the capability and the capacity to make a change and to achieve more.
The three steps you need to take to make the shift to a growth mindset are:
Recognise the benefits of a growth mindset – neuro-science has shown us that the brain changes and becomes more capable when we work to improve ourselves.
Learn about deliberate practice – ask yourself what you need to be doing or practising to work towards achieving your goals. Start implementing these practices into your daily routine.
Listen out for your inner dialogue – when you tell yourself you can’t, reframe the thought or simply add yet to the statement. I can’t do this yet. You need to acknowledge the possibility in order for it to become a reality.
We are all responsible for admitting the need or want for change. Surround yourself with the people who will support you, the knowledge that will excite you and the tools that will assist you to move towards your ideals.
